American Express presents its report on the trendiest destinations in 2026. From India to Morocco via Malta, discover this travel ranking.
Ireland, Spain and Malta in Europe
Based on bookings made in 2025 by American Express cardholders and data provided by Amex Travel’s network of travel advisors, the company’s latest report highlights ten must-visit destinations in 2026.
While France is not in the Top 10, its Spanish neighbor makes the list with Marbella. Outpacing Madrid and Barcelona, the city has become the country’s most expensive destination and welcomed nearly 720,000 tourists in 2024. Also in Europe, Ireland stands out with Killarney, a town in the southwest of the country, on the shores of Lough Leane. The latter has more than thirty four- and five-star hotels, making it one of the epicenters of Irish tourism. Malta is also included with San Ġiljan, a seaside resort not far from Valletta, popular for its beaches. In 2024, Malta set a record in its tourism history by welcoming 3.6 million inbound travelers.
On the other side of Spain, Morocco unsurprisingly stands out given the country’s tourism development, with Marrakech as the flagship destination. In 2024, the Red City welcomed nearly 4 million visitors, a record for the city, and the luxury segment remains a pillar of tourism, driven by ongoing openings.
Four destinations in North America
In Asia, the Indian Himalayas seem to have won over travelers. The mountain range attracts visitors for adventure and spiritual tourism, as well as its offering of high-end wellness resorts. Still on the continent, Japan’s Okinawa Islands are also in very high demand, especially among locals.
North America accounts for four destinations among the ten in the ranking. In the United States, Las Vegas in Nevada continues to fascinate travelers with its glitz and buzz. Sin City boasts dozens of five-star hotels and is brimming with luxury boutiques. By contrast, America’s natural landscapes appeal to travelers. In Colorado, the San Juan Mountains stand out for their rugged peaks, deep valleys, conifer forests and alpine meadows crossed by crystal-clear rivers. A destination that reflects international tourists’ quest for green, peaceful getaways. Panama City in Panama and the Papagayo Peninsula in Costa Rica, both located between North and South America, round out American Express’s list.
The company’s report also highlights several trends that are expected to shape travel in 2026. These include the search for local experiences and unique itineraries, the desire to discover hotels considered “hidden gems,” added gastronomic and culinary value, and hotel services tailored to families.
